How your money helps our charities like UOW

The Michael Tynan Challenge has been running for the past 5 years, and it is an event that we are proud to hold so that we can raise vital funds for our charities, UOW and SSMRF. Our MTC event held in 2019 was able to raise $30,000 for the UOW Molecular Horizons new life sciences facility which has been set up to research and study life forms at a molecular level. This donation has helped to support undergraduate student research in areas such as motor neurone disease, Alzheimer’s, cancer therapeutics, molecular neuroscience and protein aggregation related diseases.

Our donation has also gone towards scholarships for Molecular Horizons Honours students. Four $1000 scholarships have been awarded, as well as four $4000 grants given to UOW researcher groups for use in furthering their antimicrobial research. These scholarships and grants will ensure that the students receive the highly specialised materials they need for research.

Supporting medical research is what the Michael Tynan Challenge is all about, and it is particularly important for our company. Our group director, Madeline Tynan, has highlighted just how important this is for the company, saying “As a family, we are passionate about giving back to the Illawarra community…we are delighted to support the development taking place in the medical research facilities at UOW.”

The rest of the money that we raised from the MTC event in 2019 has gone to a Wollongong-based scientific symposium discussing the latest developments in microbiology and AMR research, as well as support towards student projects that have been affected by the COVID-19 crisis.

We are delighted to be able to keep donating to the medical research being completed at UOW each year through our Michael Tynan Challenge. If you’d like to help us this year and contribute to raising money for UOW
